The largest US car manufacturer - General Motors - has announced that it will be CO2 neutral by 2040. This is one of the first times an American automaker has set a specific target to stop producing vehicles with internal combustion engines.

GM, the largest US automaker, has committed to delivering at least 30 all-electric models "by mid-century" and ensuring that 40% of its US range will be battery-powered by the end of 2025.

GM plans to work with a wide variety of stakeholders who can build and extend a network of charging points in the US and help increase consumer acceptance of electric vehicles.

The company has also accelerated its clean energy deployment schedule to meet its carbon neutrality goal, and now aims to source 100% renewable energy at all of its U.S. plants by 2030 and worldwide five years later.
