How to set up a wind farm, a solar collector or a biogas plant? What are the latest products and technologies that help us use energy from renewable sources? Where to look for funds for green energy investments? What are the prospects and development directions for the renewable energy sector? - the answers to these and similar questions were provided at the 2009 GREENPOWER International Renewable Energy Fair held for the first time in Poznań on 19-21 May 2009. The show was held under the honorary auspices of the Minister of the Environment, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Economy.
GREENPOWER, the new offer of Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie and the Polish Economic Chamber of Renewable Energy, was welcomed by the companies from the renewable energy sector. The first edition attracted 82 exhibitors from Poland, Germany and Sweden. The exposition (1,338 m2) took up the whole area in Pavilion 9.
Offers of GREENPOWER exhibitors included solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, geothermal energy, solid and liquid biofuels, biogas and energy-efficient technologies. Companies that offer solar collectors, boilers, pellets and heat pumps were most numerous among the exhibitors participating in the show.
Founder certificates
All exhibitors of the first edition of the show received the "GREENPOWER Founder" title confirmed with a relevant certificate.
Great turnout
A wide-ranging promotional campaign that preceded the show brought expected results. The GREENPOWER exposition was visited by 9,673 attendees. Crowds of visitors gathered at the exhibitors' stands on three trade fair days to search for information about the latest solutions in the application of renewable energy sources. The admission to the fair was free of charge following online registration or registration at the entrance.
Programme of events
The exposition of GREENPOWER was enriched by an attractive programme of conferences and seminars. The International Renewable Energy Congress organised by the Polish Economic Chamber of Renewable Energy and Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie was the most important trade fair event. It attracted over 450 participants - MPs, representatives of embassies, companies from the renewable energy sector, public administration agencies, financial institutions, universities, schools, and journalists. The honorary guests and speakers invited to the Congress included: Prof. Maciej Nowicki - Minister of the Environment, Prof. Jerzy Buzek - MEP, Christine Lins - Director of the European Renewable Energy Council EREC, Dörte Fouquet - Director of the European Renewable Energies Federation EREF, Jarosław Pietras - Director General at the European Council and Günther Mate - representative of the European Investment Bank for Poland in the area of loans.
The development potential of various segments of the industry, the latest technologies applied in wind turbines, biomass boilers and biogas production and treatment technologies were presented at the congress. Additionally, administrative procedures and business plans for investments in renewables in the Polish legislative context were discussed. Other topics included the support systems and project funding conditions.
The congress was accompanied by the 2nd Forum of Solar Energy Sector "Investments, funding, innovations and the market of solar energy in Poland" prepared by EC BREC Institute of Renewable Energy.
The Leipzig cluster of energy and environmental technologies organised a free-of-charge workshop entitled "Renewable Energy Cluster in Germany - presentation, exchange of experiences and cooperation opportunities" on the first trade fair day. The main aim of the workshop was to discuss various cooperation opportunities in the relevant fields by presenting activities of the cluster's members.
The mystery of the green room
Trade fair visitors could approach stands prepared by main Polish organisations from individual subsectors of renewables (members of the Polish Coordination Board for Renewable Sources of Energy) throughout the fair. Experts offering information about development prospects in individual renewable energy segments in Poland awaited the trade fair visitors in the co-called "green rooms".
Mass media at GREENPOWER
21 magazines and specialist online services offered coverage of GREENPOWER. 114 journalists from Poland and Germany were accredited at the MTP Press Centre during the fair.
